Alt Text

Category: SEO

Alt text for an image serves three main purposes:

  1. Provides a text description of an image for screen readers
  2. Replaces the image when the image is unable to be served
  3. Provides context for search engines, which helps index the images in the search results

Tractorbeam writes descriptive alt text for each image on the website to assist with all three purposes. Alt text should be descriptive of the image and not stuffed with keywords.

For example, let's use an image of a golden retriever at the dog park.

A less desirable alt text would be "dog."

A bad alt text usage would be "dog, golden retriever, golden retriever dog, dog at dog park, golden retriever dog at dog park"

A good alt text would be "golden retriever at Cortland Addision Circle dog park"
